October is also the coffee month here in the Philippines and to celebrate it, The Philippine Coffee Board is organizing a Kape Isla farm tour. Kape Isla is actually a 'seal' that aims to promote our own Philippine coffee. The Philippine Coffee Board issues the Kape Isla seal to accredited roasters, merchants, and retailers to indicate that their product represents only the best Philippine coffee. Kape Isla is actually an umbrella name that gives a stamp of approval for quality Philippine coffees. It appears in merchant’s in-store signage, product packaging, menus and other company-related items.
This is a very good chance to me to know more about the coffee and the coffee farmers here in the Philippines. Our country has a lot of to offer. We're the only one of the few countries that produces Arabica, Liberica (Barako), Excelsa and Robusta coffees. the Philippines produces 30,000 metric tons of coffee a year, up from 23,000 metric tons just three years ago.
Though I always visit Cavite, this should be the first time that I will visit The National Coffee Research Center in Cavite State University in Indang, Cavite. I'm also looking forward in visiting The Beneficio Amadeo & the Coffee Roasting Plant. This will help me to understand further the coffee history in the country.
