Based on Oxford Dictionary of Food and Drink in America, salad was popularized way back in the Roman Empire. The word “salad” comes from the French word salade of the same meaning and from the Latin salata (salty), from sal (salt). Salt is associated with salad because vegetables were seasoned with brine or salty oil-and-vinegar dressings during the Roman times.
Here in the Philippines, where unlimited rice, samgyumpsals, buffets and processed foods from fast food chains are really popular, Filipinos mostly chose burger or fried chicken. Can't blame them though! Because those from fast food restaurants are easy to find and eat and it's cheaper too. Unfortunately, cheaper food doesn't mean its good, especially to our body.
Good thing, healthier options like salad bars and restaurants that offers organic food are gaining popularity nowadays. Jar’d In Salad House located at MC2 Building in Congressional Avenue in Quezon City is one of them. This new salad place is a partnership of the owner of Salad Bar PH and Paras Alter Station. Right now, the salad house is on its soft launch but will be opening real soon!
We've met the humble owners Paul Gan, Edmil Chan and Ed Paras during their bloggers day and they have many plans for this branch. They revealed that their price range will be from P200.00 to P400.00 good for a big serving of their salads and they will also add more choices to their drinks. The place is air-conditioned, wifi-enabled and there are comfy couch that you can seat on.
Jar’d In Salad House is a word-play on the words “jar” and “garden” because their salads are served on a clear plastic jars which you can take home, put on a fridge and will stay fresh for a few days. They also offers zesty hot teas aside from their cold drinks.
Aside from their natural good taste and great crunchy texture alongside wonderful colors and fragrances, eating salads each day can have significant health benefits. Eating a high-fiber diet can help lower cholesterol levels and prevent constipation!
If losing weight is your goal, you may want to start your meals with a green salad. Eating a low-calorie first course, like a green salad of 150 calories or less, enhances satiety or the feelings of fullness and reduces the total number of calories eaten during the meal.
At Jar’d In Salad House you can choose what will be in your salads, if you want more or less dressings. If you want more of this or that. You'll be the boss! And you can see the green salads prepared in front of you so you are sure of its cleanliness.
Let's support business like this so we'll have more healthier options in the future! 🥗
